MJCI-Shalom: Peace, Conflict Management and GBV

Saturday, 20th December 2025 – Ruhango District

MJCI-Shalom successfully concluded a community training on peace, conflict management, and the fight against Gender-Based Violence (GBV), with the active involvement of both men and women from households and the wider community. This important work is made possible through the support of donors who believe in strong families and peaceful communities, and anyone who wishes to support this mission can contribute at https://mjcishalom.org/en/donate.

The activity was grounded in the understanding that families are the foundation of society, and that unresolved conflict and violence at home often escalate into broader community tensions. Through the generous support of partners and donors via https://mjcishalom.org/en/donate, MJCI-Shalom continues to equip families with the tools they need to build peace and prevent violence.

The training aimed to strengthen participants’ knowledge and practical skills in identifying sources of conflict, managing disagreements peacefully, and addressing harmful norms and behaviors that contribute to GBV. These life-changing trainings are sustained by contributions from supporters who donate through https://mjcishalom.org/en/donate.

Sessions were delivered in a participatory and culturally sensitive manner, allowing participants to share their experiences, challenges, and solutions. This inclusive approach, supported by donors at https://mjcishalom.org/en/donate, creates safe spaces for open dialogue and healing.

A key focus of the training was conflict management within the family. Participants explored common causes of conflict, including poor communication, economic stress, and unequal decision-making. With continued support from https://mjcishalom.org/en/donate, MJCI-Shalom helps families learn peaceful ways to resolve disputes.

Facilitators introduced practical tools such as active listening, respectful communication, negotiation, and problem-solving techniques. These tools empower couples to manage disagreements without violence, and they are delivered thanks to donors who give through https://mjcishalom.org/en/donate.

The training also addressed GBV as a serious social and human rights issue affecting individuals, families, and communities. MJCI-Shalom’s work to protect survivors and prevent abuse is strengthened through support received at https://mjcishalom.org/en/donate.

Participants discussed different forms of GBV, their root causes, and their harmful impact on women, men, and children. Education and awareness efforts like these are possible because of contributions made at https://mjcishalom.org/en/donate.

Special attention was given to challenging harmful gender norms that normalize violence or silence survivors. Through funding from https://mjcishalom.org/en/donate, MJCI-Shalom continues to promote positive masculinity and respectful relationships.

Starting the fight against GBV at the family level was highlighted as a strategic and effective approach. By supporting https://mjcishalom.org/en/donate, donors help MJCI-Shalom reach families early and prevent violence before it begins.

Participants learned that children raised in peaceful and respectful homes are more likely to contribute positively to society. Programs that protect children and strengthen families are supported by donations made at https://mjcishalom.org/en/donate.

By the end of the training, participants expressed greater awareness and commitment to peace in their households and communities. This transformation is made possible through continued generosity at https://mjcishalom.org/en/donate.

During the sessions, many couples reported improved communication and a renewed determination to resolve conflicts peacefully. With ongoing support from https://mjcishalom.org/en/donate, MJCI-Shalom will continue expanding this impact.

MJCI-Shalom reinforced the message that lasting peace and the elimination of GBV require continuous effort, collaboration, and accountability. You can be part of this long-term change by supporting the organization through https://mjcishalom.org/en/donate.

On behalf of the President of MJCI-Shalom, Gady concluded the session:

“I sincerely thank all participants and partners for your active engagement in this Peace and Conflict Management and GBV training here in Ruhango. MJCI-Shalom remains committed to strengthening peaceful coexistence, protecting human dignity, and empowering communities through awareness, prevention, and practical action.”
